Charter Services
The Midland Railway Centre run the following charter services in accordance with your requirements:-
Midlander Evening SpecialsAre you looking for a venue with a difference for that special family occasion; for an office or works outing; or a club social night out? The Midlander Evening Special is available for parties of between 50 and 120 passengers. During the two and a half hour steam hauled journey your meal will be served to you as you and your friends re-live the golden age of steam travel.
Your train departs from Butterley Station in the early evening at a time to suit yourself. To round off your evening we can provide an on-train disco (£90 extra)or other entertainment if required. A selection of inclusive menus is available (see below) but these are only examples and we can provide a menu to suit your requirements. We are also happy to cater for any vegetarians or those with special dietary needs in your party if we are advised in advance.
Midlander RailtoursA conducted out-of-hours railtour at the Midland Railway Centre followed by supper served on the train is available for charter parties of 50 or more on most evenings between 1st May and 31st August. Daytime tours are available if there are no scheduled services.
You assemble at Butterley Station for an introduction to the Midland Railway Centre before boarding the train to Swanwick. You will have a guided tour of the Matthew Kirtley Museum (approximately one hour). You can then ride the Golden Valley Railway and, optionally, visit Brittain Pit farm. Please note that sensible footwear is recommended. You will then rejoin the train to return to Butterley with supper being served en-route. See below for sample menus and guide prices.
Pie and Peas Supper SpecialThis is similar to the Railtour described above but your travel is on a preserved DMU and your supper will be served in Johnson's Buffet instead of on the train. Parties of between 20 and 60 are catered for.
