Footplate Experience

Did you ever dream of driving a full sized steam or diesel locomotive, or do you know someone whose ambition has always been to be at the controls of a steam or disel locomotive? If so then one of our footplate experience courses is just what you have been looking for.
From March to October we hold a series of courses when a small number of participants can learn to control a locomotive which used to run on British Rail.
As well as helping to prepare the locomotive you will also get the opportunity to crew it on our main line for a five mile round trip.
We will also give you a guided tour around our impressive museum collection. Lunch will be provided and you will receive complimentary membership of the Midland Railway Trust for a full year.
The courses are operated in accordance with guidelines laid down by Her Majesty's Railway Inspectorate and participants must be over 18 years of age as well as being moderately fit to be able to take part
An information pack is available from Butterley station or you can get the application form by following the link below.
