The Midland Railway, Butterley is the home for all the things related to the Midland Railway. There is a standard Gauge line which has steam and diesel hauled passenger trains. The main site at Swanwick has a museum devoted to the Midland Railway as well as a large collection of steam and diesel locomotives. It is a day out for the whole family with model and miniature railways and a country park as well as a host of other attractions.
DMU Running
Trains are running every Saturday and Sunday during January and February and every day for the Half Term holiday of 11th to 19th February.
The Railway will be using one of its Diesel Multiple Units that allow you to get a driver's eye view of the line and even see the driver at work.
These trains allow us to run a more frequent service with five trains departing from Butterley between 11.00am and 2.50 pm.
Passengers can also get a free hot drink from the Buffet on Butterley Station.
You can alight at Swanwick Junction and look round the Railway Museum, West Shed Experience, Demonstration Signal Box, Victorian Railwayman's Church, and see progress on the many new projects being developed.
Special Offers
Raven Wagon Offer
The 00 gauge Raven Wagon was created especially for this year's Railex show. This limited edition wagon would make the ideal Christmas Gift. The remaining few are now on sale at £12.50 (including postage and packing) or £9.99 in the Butterley Shop.
Get Rid of Those Old Mobile Phones
A lot of people have one or two old mobile phones around that they don't use any more. If you are one of these then please donate them to us so that we can recycle them to provide funds to finish off Swanwick Station. Please bring your phone, with or without its charger and other accessories, to Butterley Office.
Prices Held
All prices for 2012 have been held at the 2011 levels. Come and ride on the trains at last year's prices.
